Derby to Broome

Not an early start this morning, as it is only a short distance to Broome.

On the tour yesterday we were told we must stop at the Willare Roadhouse where you can buy the most delicious and inexpensive cryo packed meats, so that was our first and only stop along the way.

The Roadhouse

We did buy some amazing scotch fillet and some marinated lamb ribs for very reasonable prices, can't wait to get out the BBQ!

A long way to everywhere

Arrived in Broome (without a booking) and had no luck with the first caravan park we tried, they were full with no prospects. They suggested we go to the Visitors Centre where they control 'the overflow'. This is where you go when you can't get a spot , they put you up, unpowered at the Pistol Club or some other unsavoury place.

But me, being as positive as I am, was convinced we would get in somewhere. So where do you think I headed next......well only to the most popular caravan park in town, right on Cable Beach, which by the way was very full.

Cable Beach Caravan Park
I marched into the office full of beans,  and one of the lovely office ladies commented on my beautiful bright pink lipstick I had on and asked me what it was..... well here I saw an opening... I said I would tell her what it was if she could find us two powered sites......... and here we are in Cable Beach Caravan Park.
Jeff relaxing on our site
She was able to give us a site each for a couple of nights and promised she would find us more nights in a couple of days. Of course the next morning I gave her the details of the lipstick, and today she confirmed we could stay till July 20.

Our first sighting of the beach

It is an enormous park with over 500 sites, but it has a great friendly feel to it.  Lots of people are regulars and come to stay for up to four months every year. Some of the setups are really something with dining settings, armchairs, outside TV's and a lot of sites are set up with fairy lights around their vans and in the trees. It has a great holiday atmosphere.

Beautiful Cable Beach

The boys are golfing today, and Jude and I hit the shopping strip. We have been into the pearl shops, but haven't bought one yet, there is still time.

Beautiful Cable Beach

We have been down to the fantastic beach, the water is very cold and the sunsets are glorious.

Beautiful Cable Beach

We are out to dinner tonight at The Sunset Bar and Grill, right on the beach, but we might need long sleeves as it is actually cloudy today and the evenings are quite cool and the nights are cold, but we do forget it is Winter even here in Broome.
