We set off nice and early for the 305kms to Kings Canyon. We had booked to stay at the Kings Creek Station Caravan Park for 2 nights, which was 30kms before the actual Kings Canyon. When we arrived it was not quite what we were expecting, it didn't look anything like a caravan park from the road, in fact it was actually a working station.

The whole station was red dirt, interesting setup with each site having it's own outdoor style kitchen with long tables and bench seating, all undercover some were even protected with fly screening, and each site had a huge fire pit - but no firewood was offered and you were not allowed to collect any from anywhere on the property! So what was the point. It would have been great to have a fire as it was freezing. This camp was very expensive for what it offered, we would have been better off free camping and keeping the money. Oh well it all adds to the experience.
After setting our vans up we drove the next 30kms into the canyon to check out the walks for tomorrow and also to check out the other campground, which was quite good, so we booked for tomorrow night.
We cooked outside in our very own camp kitchen with a glass of red and our coats, gloves and beanies, but we ate in the vans as it was freezing.
A long dirt track (red dirt) led about 1km up to a lookout where we were joined by all the others campers to see the magnificent sunset. It was certainly worth the walk.
